John’s first screenplay, ‘Water into Wine’, completely won over the jury of the JL Filmmaker Award in 2020 and now in memoriam the award bares his name.

Prolifically creative, John had produced two films since 2020 and was in post-production on his latest two projects at the time of his death in 2024.

“John was a respected film colleague, but more than that, he was my dear friend. I will miss our conversations and his quick wit, humour, and humanity,” says JL Legacy Fund President Cat LeBlanc.

Production company No Fear Films is now a sponsor of the JL John Young Filmmaker Award for an emerging filmmaker in the province of New Brunswick. Filmmaker Becky Parsons has joined the jury. The deadline is 30 September 2024 and the award recipient will be announced at the 24th Silver Wave Film Festival, Fredericton, NB. November 7-14, 2024.
